🌏 Sri Lanka's Tropical Climate

Due to its location within the tropics — between 5°55'–9°51' North latitude and 79°42'–81°53' East longitude — Sri Lanka's climate is characteristically tropical.

The central southern highlands rise above 2.5 km and feature complex ridges, peaks, plateaus, basins and valleys that strongly influence winds, seasonal rainfall, temperature and humidity, particularly during the monsoon seasons.

The remainder of the island is practically flat, except for small hills rising abruptly in the lowlands. These topographical features, together with the SW and NE monsoons, define the four climate seasons visitors experience.
