‘Sri Lankan Ayurveda Evening’ in Luxembourg

( Posted on July 14, 2025 )

Sri Lanka Embassy in Brussels and ‘Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort’ in Waikkal Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Union Luxembourgeoise de Tourisme (ULT) in Luxembourg, organized ‘Sri Lanka Ayurveda Evening’ on 2nd July 2025 at Goeres Hotel in Luxembourg. The event aimed to promote Sri Lanka as a premier wellness tourism destination in Luxembourg which attracted over 70 participants including travel writers, travel agents and travellers with an interest in Ayurveda.

Welcoming guests, Ms. Lydia Heinisch, executive director at ULT mentioned that the collaborative event will be a valuable platform to strengthen connections between Sri Lanka’s wellness tourism sector and the Luxembourgish travel industry.

Sri Lanka Ambassador to Luxembourg, Chandana Weerasena briefly provided an overview of Sri Lanka’s rich Ayurvedic heritage and indigenous medicine. He also said that Sri Lankan Ayurveda treatments have been evolved and developed with scientific evidence to cater modern societies. He encouraged and invited the audience to explore Sri Lanka’s unique wellness offerings and to promote the country’s vibrant tourism sector among Luxembourgish travelers seeking rejuvenating experiences.

The event featured an informative presentation by Prof. Kamal Perera, founder Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, of the University of Colombo and an executive member of Sri Lanka Ayurveda Medical Council of the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. He highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka and introduced the core principles of Ayurvedic philosophy and explained travel inspiration which can be experienced in Sri Lanka through wellness retreats, nature, culture, and healthy cuisine.

Prof. Perera conducted a live demonstration of traditional Ayurvedic massage techniques, using oils and herbal compresses. The participants had the opportunity to experience treatments such as head massage, foot massage, shoulder massage, and Marma therapy (vital energy point massage) and a brief pulse diagnosis session. They were fascinated by the accuracy and uniqueness of this ancient diagnostic technique.

As part of the interactive experience, the audience was given a questionnaire to complete, allowing them to self-evaluate and identify their individual dosha “Vata, Pitta, or Kapha”. Based on their results, participants received a selection of spices and herbs sourced from Sri Lanka, enabling them to create their own Ayurvedic herbal tea blend tailored to their specific dosha. This hands-on activity was well-received and added a personalized touch to the event, reinforcing the practical applications of Ayurvedic knowledge.

The evening concluded on a flavorful note with a traditional Sri Lankan dinner. The event fostered a deeper appreciation of Sri Lanka as a destination for holistic wellness, cultural richness, and natural healing. ‘Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort’ in Waikkal, Sri Lanka, was the core-sponsor of the event.
