Ratnapura | Balla Mala Ella

Balla Mala Ella

This waterfall, formerly known as ‘Karawita Ella’flows down theUdakarawitamountain. Legend has it that one day a British planter, followed by his faithful dog, visited the falls to capture some photographs. Unfortunately, the excited dog lost its footing and plummeted into the base of the waterfall and drowned. A nobleman named D G Siridoris witnessed this event, and from then on referred to it as ‘Balla Mala Ella’, which means ‘the waterfall in which the dog died.’
