Sri Lanka Tourism to drive Niche Markets in South Korea

In the back drop of a 16.7% growth registered from South Korea in the month of May, on the side lines of the World Tourism Fair in Korea- KOTFA,  Sri Lanka Tourism on a private-public strategy agreed to develop the South Korean Outbound travel market worth 14 million travellers by initially launching into a niche market ' Bhudhist Tourism" whilst developing the overall game plan on the ' one island- thousand treasures' positioning which is in line with the multitude of attractions that Sri Lanka can offer an international traveller said Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Rohantha Athukorala post the meeting with Head Monk of the Jogye Order of Korean Bhuddism Venerable Won-Myeong and High Priest of South Korea Ven. Dr. Welanhinne Wachissara Nayaka Thero in Seoul, South Korea.

The strategy will include the a communication strategy that includes a initial visit by the the two Venerables to Sri Lanka and there after FAM tour of 10 selected travel agents from South Korea- namely Seoul and Busan which will be supported by focussed advertising on the Buddhist Television Network which the Jogye Order administers said Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Beaurea  in a communique. We must do this marketing in such away that it does not disturb the rest of the 60% devotees who follow other religions said Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Chairman Athukorala citing his past experience of working on South Korea.

 

High Priest of South Korea Ven. Dr. Welanhinne Wachissara Nayaka Thero visited the Sri Lanka Pavillion of KOTFA and met the private sector and Ambassordor Wijeratne

 

As the first step to developing the market the Esala Perahera which will be segment sponsored by Sri Lanka Tourism will include a live feed to the International Buddhist Network in South Korea whilst Head Monk of the Jogye Order of Korean Bhuddism Venerable Won-Myeong and High Priest of South Korea Ven. Dr. Welanhinne Wachissara Nayaka Thero will personally be in attendance on the 19th of August at the launch of the Sri Lanka Tourism strategy from Kandy at the Esala Perahera announced chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Rohantha Athukorala. The Sri Lankan delegation included Jagath Kumara Counsellor(Commercial) - Embassy of Sri Lanka in South Korea and Madubani Perera the Director Marketing of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
