Bellanwila Temple (Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya)

This temple famous among many Buddhist people, because of the sacred Bo tree of Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya, which is considered to be one of the first offshoots of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura and annual Esala procession (Perahera). The Bellanwila Esala procession usually consists of drummers, dancers, decorated tuskers and trumpeters who parades the neighborhoods of the Bellanwila temple premises. Esala procession (Perahera) festival which usually takes place in the month of August or September. This temple has interesting old structures and also ancient paintings.
