19 top Sri Lankan Destination Marketing Companies( DMC's) met 127 key German DMC's and journalists for future business with Sri Lanka. This will then be followed up with a 4 months strong advertising blitz on the Deutsche Bahn that cuts across the key markets in Germany to make Sri Lanka a top of the mind destination among German travellers said Athukorala. To support this below this activity an online global Youtube advertising competition themed " My dream vacation on Sri Lanka " is been launched partnering google so that the different experiences of a traveller in Sri Lanka can be show cased to the world. If we can kick in the global branding and communication campaign by December this year I am confident that in 2016 we can attract the $250 dollar tourist than the current $160 dollar visitor he said.

Around two-thirds of Germans have the financial means to travel with more than 80 million Germans Travellers taking vacations at least once last year. Sri Lanka has a market share of less that 1% in Germany which is the opportunity Sri Lanka must target voiced Athukorala. Given the aging society, the long haul market accounts for more than 60% which is why engagement with DMC's is important.  Sri Lanka is currently registering a visitors growth of 13.5%  at 65,556 guests as at end July 2015 said the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau in a communique.
