KoneshwaramTher festival, organized by the historic Koneshwaram temple in Trincolmalee, is an annualceremonyheld in the latter part of the twenty-day holy festival happening from 23rd March to 12th April as a tribute to Lord Shiva by the Hindu population. The festival attracts thousands of Hindus from around the island to the temple for this festival, where devotees chantmanthras for Lord Shiva and get divine blessings. The statues of Lord Koneswar with his consort MaathumaiAmbal are taken in the newly built chariot around the temple, amidst chanting of thousands of devotees, on this festival day.
