Pola
Another traditional shopping tradition that shouldn’t be missed is the weekly market, or pola, where people have the chance to sell a variety of items – from all conceivable kinds of fruit, vegetable and grains, to readymade clothes and cooking utensils – to people who make the day an occasion by arranging to meet friends, to catch up on local gossip, as well as browsing the stalls for items to take home. The pola is often a more competitively-priced place to buy a wide variety of items. A visit to a one is an event in which you get an insight into authentic Sri Lankan culture.
