A train will be taken to trincomalee with the 260 participants for a day- creating maximum coverage on Trincomalee. There are no cash prizes, and this is a deliberate choice – what is to be gained here is the unique experience that these women are going to share – that of living and working together for a week at the far end of the world. Treasure Hunt 2009 The concept is to have a group of 40 French Travel agents to come to Sri Lanka to learn about the country in an atypical way. These 40 agents will be divided into different groups of 3 to 4 pax and will be given clues to find a different treasure each day.The “Treasures” that the teams will have to discover with those clues are sites of tourist interest in Sri Lanka. The enigmas are kept secret until the day of the challenge and a winner is selected each night during a small prize giving ceremony until the final night where the points of each winning team are added up and the first three places are selected. Through this interesting exercise, our guests learn about the destination and its products, but as we encourage them to interact with the Sri Lankans to find their way to each location and to find answers to the questions we ask them, the participants blend together with our people thus experiencing their hospitality and helpfulness. The outcome of the Treasure Hunt is always very fruitful and without even realizing it, our guests become the best ambassadors to our country. The selection is done through a draw and the main criteria to be selected are to be a first timer to our land like no other and to be eager to discover it! Vap Full Moon Poya Day (2009-10-03 To 2009-10-03) Even before the birth of Buddhism, Asian ascetics in the ancient times when there were no calendars, made it a practice on full moon days to cease worldly pursuits and engage themselves in religious activities. The Buddha adopted this practice and from this devel2009-07-10oped the preaching of the Buddhist texts and commentaries  (bana) in monasteries and temples on full moon Poya days. And when the Venerable Arahat Mahinda Thero introduced Buddhism to this country in 247 BC he also introduced the Poya tradition. Following is a brief description of the 12 Poyas in the Buddhist calendar and their significance. Vap (full moon Poya day in October) The significant events commemorated during this month are: the conclusion of The Buddha preaching of the Abhidhamma for three months to his mother in the Heavenly realm (devaloka), King Devanampiyatissa of Sri Lanka sending envoys to King Asoka requesting him to send his daughter Arahat Sanghamitta Theri to Sri Lanka to establish the Bhikkhuni Sasana (Order of Nuns). | |
