The world’s largest hospitality exhibition, ITB Berlin will begin tomorrow (5th March) with the largest event delegation from the Sri Lanka leisure sector participating. The event will attract over 10,000 stalls and over 100,000 visitors and travel agents and most of the Sri Lankan companies will market their existing properties and also expose their ongoing properties to the world market from the event.
The Sri Lanka Tourism would be represented by Director General, Dr.D.G. Jayaweera and junior officer M.Dilini. Sri Lankan Airlines would be represented by Chairman Nishantha Wickramasighe and will once again have a separate stall. The opening ceremony of the Sri Lanka stand would be held tomorrow, the opening day at 11 a.m. The Sri Lanka stand will depict the ancient kingdom of yapahuwa and a specially built replica of an elephant too would be displayed to attract visitors.
Ambassador to Sri Lanka in Germany, Sarath Kongahage will be the chief guest invite for the event. The 2014 ITB partner country this year would be Mexico. “Mexico is a country that is always full of surprise. We are confident that in its role as the partner country of ITB. Mexico will provide a successful display of its tourism products to the international market and the will be the focus of attention” said, Dr. Christian Goeke, CEO of Messe Berlin.
Federal Economics and Energy Minister Sigmar Gabriel will speak at the opening ceremony Berlin - Spectacular programme of show by Mexico, the partner country. From Wednesday to Friday the ITB Berlin is open to trade visitors only. The event concludes on Saturday.
