"A STRATEGY TO CAPTURE THE EMERGING MARKETS"

2.5 million tourist are expected to travel to the country by 2016 as per the Mahinda Chinthana Version for the future and implementation plan laid by H.E the president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

"Sri Lanka Shines in Beijing" joint mega tourist promotion campaign, held under the guidance of Minister of Economic Development Hon.Basil Rajapaksa is one of the major promotional tools towards achieving this tourist's target.

A JOINT EFFORT BY ALL STAKEHOLDERS IN SRI LANKA

This joint Mega Promotion campaign with joint efforts from public and private sectors has been initiated under the advice of H.E the president Mahinda Rajapaksa. For the first time all state and non-state sectors will merge promoting our motherland as the Wonder of Asia in the emerging markets as well as the rest of the world.

WHY CHINA

Sri Lanka has identified China as a strategic market according to the present economic and tourism trends. In addition to that the UNWTO has identified China as the number one market which would generate 100 million outbound travels 2020. Chinese tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka is escalating steadily, as the country has received 16,582 tourists during the first six months of this year, compared to 9,622 visitors received during the same period last year. This is a 72.3% year on year growth. The latest expansion shows encouraging signs, as the government of Sri Lanka is focusing on the growing Chinese outbound tourism market, which during the year 2012 stood at 83 million tourists.

A glamorous and a colorful event, which will feature a series of activities, highlighting the true Sri Lankan culture and tradition. This event includes cultural dance items, music items and mouth-wearing Sri Lankan cuisine coordinated by Chef Rohan Fernandopulle. The night is designed specially to entertain and engage around 500 invitees including, politicians of China, China government officials, Ministers, Media, Trade, Business entities and Travel agents.

WEB LAUNCH

The first ever official tourism web site launched in Chinese language will be featured at the Sri Lanka Night programme. The launch will take place with the invited celebrities for the night.

B2B TRAVEL

Over 100 Chinese travel agents plus 50 online Chinese agents will be invited to meet with Sri Lankan leisure sector operators who will arrive in Beijing. Travel industry members will be able to network and seal valuable business agreements during this session. Launching of two special tour packages together with Sri Lankan Airlines and the travel industry will take place at this forum which also includes launch. 40 tour operators from Sri Lanka is expected to participate at this event.

B2B TRADE

Key Sri Lankan Trade representatives from Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of industry and Commerce, Ministry of Botanical Gardens, Public reservation, Sri Lankan Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Board of investment (BOI), Sri Lankan Handicrafts Board, Sri Lankan export Development Board and National Gem & Jewellery Authority including private sector stakeholders will be presenting a gamut of opportunities available in Sri Lanka.
